This room is one of my favorite rooms in the entire school. This is the teacher's book room. Mrs. Shepherd and Mrs. Rhoades have taken a lot of time to organize our books (which are mostly in packs of 6), and made this room immaculate for teachers! Don't mind the books on the table, they we're 'freebies' for teachers. There are hundreds of books for teachers to choose from, to use with our class starting at a Pre-K level and going through Elementary Level. Shhh.... it's our secret room :)
Today is Flash's birthday! We went into the LRC and 'whisper sang' to her. She was full of snuggles and LOVING the attention from us! I have a class picture, and will upload that later!
This week we've continued working on homophones, inferring, monitoring, and what 'great readers' look like. We had a reading assembly on Monday, and different teachers got up and spoke about what 'hooked' us on reading. I was honored to share my love and passion that I have about literature and my favorite author. We took our first Math test today. The testing looks a bit different, because it is problem-based. Remember.... we're getting our kids to think deep and to be better math thinkers and problem solvers. The kids have finally been able to spend recess outside (because the temperatures have cooled off)! Yeah! Please continue reading every night with your child. Payton and Jamie are the first Math Masters of the classroom. Be sure to practice facts for a few minutes each night. Good Evening Families of Room 231! With not having school on Monday, I feel a day behind! Tomorrow is ALREADY Thursday. Geesh! This week we've continued working on perimeter with decomposing, reading and writing numbers, and adding. Tomorrow I'll see if I can switch them over to subtraction in a problem-solving format. I'm anxious to see if any kids take what they already know from addition decomposing, and apply it to subtraction.
In Language Arts we're working on two very important words: Inferring and Monitoring. We're working on inferring in fiction and monitoring in fiction and in nonfiction. I sent home our first spelling words for the year. The list of 15 words will be tested on Friday. In Writing we're in the beginning stages of complete sentences, paragraph form.... also writing for QUALITY not QUANTITY! In Social Studies we're studying the branches of government. We did a SmartBoard activity and have learning the importance of each branch. We set September reading goals on Wednesday. Almost all of them have come back signed. Yeah! Each child reads differently, so each goal is different. Remember to encourage 'good fit' books when reading at home. Continue working on Math Matters. They have the opportunity to be tested EACH MORNING! Have a wonderful rest of the week! Yours in Education, Mrs. Felkey |
