~Families of Room 231~
We have been extremely busy in fourth grade. Last week our plant cells were due. The kids did an outstanding job on them, and presented them with such confidence. We took our plant/cell test, and those went home last week as well. We finished our pen pal letters, and those were sent off to our fourth grade friends at Northeast.
In Math, we're still working on long multiplication and this week we're dabbling in division. I've said this a lot, but everything is problem-based and requires deeper thinking and problem solving. If you can't tell my excitement... I LOVE IT! I had kids dividing 4 digit by 2 digit today. I'm anxious to show their work to you at conferences.
In Language Arts we've been reading the book, Rules. I encourage you to ask your child about the book, and ask them what they think of the characters. The story line is deep and the lesson within the book is huge. The conversations that we have about the book are deep and meaningful. This week we're digging more into nonfiction as well. We're inferring with nonfiction, looking at the text features and how they make us better readers, and summarizing non fiction. In Writing we are working on persuasive essays. They will be ready by conference time. In the meantime, we'll continue working on other opinion/persuasive essays for you to read. Very soon I will have Iowa Assessment information up... Check out the Science tab to see some pictures of some Plant Cells.
